Welcome to the SI — Super Intelligence Series
Artificial Intelligence is changing quickly.
But perhaps the most important story isn't simply how intelligent the machines become.
It may be what happens to us.
For most of history, extraordinary intellectual resources belonged primarily to governments, universities, large corporations, wealthy individuals and organizations able to assemble teams of specialists.
That relationship is beginning to change.
Increasingly capable artificial intelligence is becoming available to ordinary people.
A single person can now ask for help researching a subject, understanding complicated information, developing ideas, improving writing, learning new skills, analyzing possibilities, creating software and solving problems.
That leads to the central question behind the SI — Super Intelligence series:
What happens when ordinary people gain access to extraordinary intelligence?
Maybe the Super Intelligence Isn't Just the Machine
Discussions about advanced AI often focus on whether machines will eventually become more intelligent than humans.
That is an important question.
But it isn't the only question.
Artificial intelligence brings speed, breadth, pattern recognition, analysis and access to enormous amounts of information.
Humans bring experience, imagination, judgment, values and purpose.
Put the two together and something interesting happens.
Maybe the Super Intelligence isn't the machine.
Maybe it is the amplified human.
