The Town at the Center of the Story

About Hollowridge

Some towns preserve their history. Hollowridge rewrites it.

Hidden among forested hills and roads that disappear into fog, Hollowridge appears to be an ordinary small town shaped by old families, local traditions, and generations of shared memories.

Look closer, and those memories begin to disagree.

A Familiar Place with an Unfamiliar Past

Hollowridge is the kind of town where church bells mark the hour, shopkeepers know every family by name, and old brick buildings line a main street polished by decades of rain.

Residents speak proudly of their history, but their stories rarely match. Buildings appear in photographs years before they were supposedly constructed. Names disappear from public records. Entire families are remembered by some residents and denied by others.

The longer someone remains in Hollowridge, the harder it becomes to know which version of the town is real.

The Heart of Hollowridge

The town center contains a diner, public library, pharmacy, hardware store, newspaper office, and several businesses that appear to have changed owners without ever changing their signs.

On quiet evenings, the storefront windows reflect people who are not standing on the sidewalk. Streetlights flicker in sequence as though following someone walking through town.

Locals rarely acknowledge these things.

In Hollowridge, pretending not to notice is a form of survival.

Records Above, Secrets Below

The Hollowridge courthouse stands at the center of town, overlooking the square from behind tall stone columns and narrow windows.

Its public archives contain property deeds, birth records, death certificates, court filings, and town histories dating back more than a century.

Many of those documents have been altered.

Beneath the public archive is a sealed underground vault whose contents are known to only a few people. Somewhere inside rests a manuscript that may hold the original version of Hollowridge—and everyone who has ever lived there.

Channel 8 Never Went Completely Silent

For decades, Channel 8 broadcast school events, town meetings, weather reports, local interviews, and programs produced by Hollowridge residents.

The station closed after a series of unexplained incidents. Equipment was removed, electrical service was disconnected, and the building was left to decay.

Yet one camera remained.

Camera Three continues to display a glowing red tally light. Old televisions sometimes receive fragments of its signal, and the footage does not always show the town as it exists today.

“Hollowridge remembers everyone. The danger begins when it remembers you differently.”

Time Does Not Behave Normally Here

Clocks throughout Hollowridge occasionally stop at the same minute. Watches lose time near certain buildings. Recorded broadcasts contain dates that have not yet occurred.

Some residents remember entire days that others insist never happened.

Those who leave town may discover that they have been gone longer than expected—or that almost no time has passed at all.

In Hollowridge, time is less like a road and more like a page that can be revised.

The Trees Keep the Town Hidden

Dense pine forests surround Hollowridge on every side. Roads curve through the trees before returning travelers to places they have already passed.

Trails disappear between visits. Voices carry from deep within the woods, sometimes calling people by names they have not used since childhood.

Compasses become unreliable near the northern ridge, and maps made by different surveyors never agree.

Some believe the forest protects Hollowridge.

Others believe it prevents the town from escaping.

The Nursery

Few residents agree on where The Nursery stood. Some remember it beyond the northern ridge. Others place it near the old county road or beside land later occupied by the television station.

Official records provide no clear answer.

What remains certain is that the place was connected to children, missing memories, recorded interviews, and an effort to change the way people remembered their own lives.

Mara Ellison's return forces Hollowridge to confront what happened there—and what may still be happening.

Everyone Knows More Than They Admit

Hollowridge is populated by people who have spent their lives learning when to speak, when to look away, and which questions should never be asked.

Some residents protect the town because they love it. Others fear what will happen if its secrets are exposed.

A few seem to understand that their lives may be part of something larger—and that someone beyond Hollowridge may be reading every choice they make.

Questions About the Town

Before You Cross the Town Line

These answers introduce Hollowridge without revealing the novel's major twists.

Is Hollowridge a real town?

Hollowridge is a fictional town created for the novel Hollowridge: The Nursery. Its atmosphere draws from isolated American towns, old public buildings, forest roads, and places shaped by generations of local history.

Where is Hollowridge located?

The novel intentionally avoids placing Hollowridge within a clearly identified state. Its remote hills, forests, old architecture, and changing roads give it the feeling of a town that could exist just beyond any familiar route.

Why do memories change in Hollowridge?

The changing memories connect to the town's history, The Nursery, Channel 8, and the Original Manuscript. The complete explanation unfolds throughout the novel.

Can people leave Hollowridge?

People can physically leave, but distance does not always break the town's influence. Memories, dreams, recordings, and unfinished stories often follow them.

Will future books return to Hollowridge?

Hollowridge: The Nursery tells a complete story while establishing a world that can support additional mysteries, characters, locations, and supernatural events.
