Meet the Six

Six people. Six secrets. One buried night.

Richard, Claire, Daniel, Rebecca, Michael, and Thomas once shared something powerful enough to bind them together—and dangerous enough to keep them apart.

They were not strangers when Arthur Vale died.

They were people who had once known one another too well.

Twenty years earlier, something happened that changed all six of their lives. What followed was silence, distance, guilt, resentment, and an unspoken agreement never to examine the past too closely.

Arthur's death breaks that agreement.

Each remembers part of the truth. None may know all of it.

01 — Richard Vale

The Husband

Richard has spent twenty years creating a life that appears solid from the outside.

Successful, disciplined, and accustomed to being in control, Richard has learned how to manage appearances and how to keep uncomfortable questions contained.

But Claire has begun asking questions he does not want answered.

Richard knows the past is dangerous.

What he does not know is how much Claire has already discovered.

Some men are afraid of being exposed. Others are afraid of what exposure will reveal about everyone around them.
RICHARD

What he shows the world

Confidence. Stability. Authority.

What he fears

Claire may know something that could destroy more than their marriage.

02 — Claire Vale

The Moral Center

Claire has lived with the past differently than the others.

Where some learned to justify what happened, Claire never stopped wondering whether they had done the right thing—or whether they had ever known the truth at all.

In the months before Arthur's death, she quietly began comparing old memories, documents, and inconsistencies.

She has also been in secret contact with Daniel.

Richard may suspect an affair.

The truth may be far more dangerous.

Claire does not want revenge. She wants to know what really happened.
CLAIRE

What she wants

The truth.

What makes her dangerous

She has finally stopped accepting the version of the past everyone agreed to believe.

03 — Daniel Mercer

The Outsider

Daniel tried to leave the group behind.

Distance gave him a new life, but it never gave him freedom from the night that tied the six together.

Daniel is observant, guarded, and less dependent on Arthur's money than some of the others.

That makes him difficult to control.

His secret contact with Claire began as an exchange of memories.

It became something else when the two of them began finding contradictions.

Daniel has answers Claire needs. Claire may have found a question Daniel does not want asked.
DANIEL

What separates him

He has the least obvious reason to play Arthur's game.

What connects him

Twenty years later, he still remembers what the others would rather forget.

04 — Rebecca Shaw

The Wounded One

No one appears to have paid a higher price for the past than Rebecca.

The event from twenty years ago did not remain safely contained in memory. It shaped her choices, her relationships, and the person she became.

The others may see Rebecca as fragile.

They may be making a mistake.

Pain can break a person.

It can also make them impossible to manipulate forever.

Rebecca may be the person everyone worries about—and the person they should be most worried about underestimating.
REBECCA

What the others see

Someone damaged by the past.

What they may miss

Rebecca remembers things no one realizes she remembers.

05 — Michael Grant

The Charmer

Michael is the easiest person in the room to like.

He knows how to defuse tension, tell the right story, and remind everyone of better times.

That talent has served him well.

Perhaps too well.

Michael and Rebecca share knowledge of something connected to the original incident, and both have reasons to keep the other quiet.

As the weekend unfolds, Michael's charm begins to look less like personality and more like a survival skill.

The most dangerous person in the room is not always the one everyone fears.
MICHAEL

What makes him likable

He knows exactly what people need to hear.

The uncomfortable question

How long has he been practicing?

06 — Thomas Bennett

The Keeper

Everyone believes Thomas knows more than he says.

They are right.

Careful, methodical, and difficult to read, Thomas has spent years keeping certain information locked away.

He possesses documents that could damage at least one of the others.

His silence looks suspicious.

But suspicion and guilt are not the same thing.

Thomas may be protecting someone.

Sometimes keeping a secret is an act of self-preservation. Sometimes it is an act of loyalty.
THOMAS

What everyone assumes

Thomas is protecting himself.

What if they're wrong?

His secret may belong to someone else.

The Grievance Web

No relationship is simple.

Claire and Daniel have been communicating in secret.

Rebecca and Michael share knowledge neither wants exposed.

Thomas holds information capable of damaging someone else.

Claire has discovered something about Richard.

And Arthur knew enough about all six to bring every fracture back to the surface.

Six Possible Victims

No one is disposable.

Every member of the Meridian Six has something to hide, something to lose, and someone they may need to protect.

Every one of them could die.

The danger only works if the reader believes the final coffin could belong to anyone.

Every one of them could cause a death.

Through violence, silence, a lie, a decision, or one moment of fear.

Every one of them has a different truth.

And one person's truth may be another person's lie.

And Then There Is Arthur

The six are not alone.

Arthur Vale may be dead when the story begins, but his presence remains everywhere.

His estate.

His money.

His questions.

His knowledge of the past.

Six people survived what happened twenty years ago. Arthur may be the reason they survived it.

Or perhaps he is the reason it happened at all.

Before the End

One of the six will not leave this story alive.

Richard. Claire. Daniel. Rebecca. Michael. Thomas.

By the final funeral, five remain.

The question is which five.

The Meridian Six

Meet them now.

Decide who you trust.

Then see whether you still trust them at the end.
