An Evidence-First Search for Jesus Christ

Who Is Jesus Christ?

Prophet? Teacher? Messiah? Son of God? Savior?

More than two thousand years after Jesus walked the roads of Galilee, the world is still debating who He was — and who He is.

Three books. Ancient scripture. Competing claims. One question.

THE TRUTH Series examines the Bible, the Book of Mormon, history, the Resurrection, the Church Jesus established, and the claim that God still speaks.

THE TRUTH III Who Is Jesus Christ by Bruce Goldwell

What Does the Evidence Say?

Not what one denomination says. Not what another religion says. Not what tradition says. Not even what Bruce Goldwell says.

What does the evidence say?

THE TRUTH Series begins with the source texts themselves. What did Jesus teach? What did His apostles reveal? What does the Bible actually say? What does the Book of Mormon claim? What do history and the earliest Christian sources tell us?

Where the evidence is strong, we say so. Where interpretations differ, we acknowledge them. Where the answer remains uncertain, we remain willing to say:

We do not know.

The Three-Book Investigation

Each book approaches the question from a different direction, building an investigation that begins with the Bible and eventually asks one of humanity's oldest questions: Who is Jesus Christ?

Book I
THE TRUTH by Bruce Goldwell

THE TRUTH

What Jesus Taught, What His Apostles Revealed, and What the Bible Actually Says

Begin with the Bible. Examine Jesus, His apostles, baptism, authority, revelation, the Resurrection, the afterlife, and the Church described in the New Testament.

THE TRUTH II

Two Witnesses of Jesus Christ

What happens when the Bible and the Book of Mormon are placed beside one another and their testimony of Jesus Christ is compared?

Don't Begin With a Denomination.

Begin with Jesus.

Put the evidence on the table. Read the source texts. Compare the claims. Ask difficult questions.

The Truth is the Truth.

Investigate the Questions

You do not have to begin by accepting anyone's conclusion. Begin with a question.

Who Is Jesus Christ?

Examine what Jesus said about Himself and what His earliest followers believed about Him.

Investigate →

Did Jesus Really Exist?

What do Christian and non-Christian historical sources tell us about Jesus of Nazareth?

Examine the evidence →

Is Jesus God?

What did Jesus claim, and why did His earliest followers give Him such extraordinary authority?

Explore the question →

Did Jesus Rise From the Dead?

Christianity stands or falls on the Resurrection. How early is the claim, and what evidence supports it?

Examine the Resurrection →

Reformation or Restoration?

If something essential was lost from the original Church, could reform alone bring it back?

Investigate →

The Bible and the Book of Mormon

Do these two records contradict one another, or do they testify of the same Jesus Christ?

Compare the witnesses →

Jesus in Islam

Islam honors Jesus as Messiah and prophet. Where do Christianity and Islam agree — and where do their claims sharply differ?

An Evidence-First Approach

This project does not begin by asking you to prove a religion or disprove one.

It begins by asking what the sources actually say.

Where Scripture makes an explicit statement, identify it. Where a conclusion requires interpretation, call it interpretation. Where historical evidence is disputed, acknowledge the dispute.

Then let the reader examine the evidence.

One Question Remains

Jesus asked His disciples:

“But whom say ye that I am?”

Two thousand years later, the question still belongs to each of us.

About Bruce Goldwell

Bruce Goldwell is an author, songwriter, U.S. Army veteran, and lifelong seeker of answers to some of life's biggest questions.

He served six years in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam in 1970 and later in Germany, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Years later, his life took a dramatically different turn when he experienced homelessness in the Venice and Santa Monica areas of California.

Those experiences, and decades of conversations about life, death, faith, loss, and what may exist beyond this life, helped shape his continuing search for answers.

Bruce is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and makes no attempt to hide that perspective. His invitation, however, is not to believe something merely because he believes it.

Examine the sources. Compare the claims. Ask difficult questions. Decide what you believe.

Begin the Investigation

Start with the Bible.

Follow the evidence through the Resurrection, the Book of Mormon, the original Church, and the question of Restoration.
